The printing of coated sheets is the most demanding step
in the production of crown corks.

A printing line with
4 colour machines and
UV drying of 2009 is
matching highest customer
demands on presentation
of the brand.

Printing – from design to
individual brand presentation

The drafts of the responsible marketing
depts. are first checked to see whether
there may be any technical issues
of transferring the design into the
specified crown cork. Often, drawings
or letters have to be slightly expanded
so that they do not “run into each other”
when being printed. Also to be
considered is the size of the printed
spot and the increased amount of
dust which will be generated during
the closing process if the decoration is
extended until the edge of the crown.
Following this, the datas are trans-
formed into lithographs and then
passed to the customer for inspection
and approval.
At the same time, the recipes for the
inks are worked out. The printing plates
are produced after the customer
approval of the lithos.
The specific data of each decoration
afterwards is saved in the PC of the
printing line. Due to the fact that metal
as a carrier of ink reacts sensitively to
external influences, slight tolerances in
colour could occur. Here the knowledge
of highly skilled printers is required.
During changeover all parts of the
machine have to be cleaned carefully
and the adjustement of the printing
plates has to ensure no deviations.
